In October 2017, The Department of Agriculture of Thailand (DOA) has released a list of draft amendments to its PVP Act of 1999. The proposed amendments, largely adopted from the 1991 UPOV Convention, which Thailand is not a member of, can be seen as country's effort to attract more foreign investment in the area of plant R&D. The draft amendments foresee longer protection terms, the introduction of EDV, and stronger restrictions on farmers' privilege. The DOA held several public hearings in the fall 2017 and is still accepting written comments until February 20. Learn more
