UPOV Council Approves Nigeria & Saint Vincent and the Grenadines' Draft PVR Laws


August 29 - UPOV has announced that its Council took a positive decision on conformity of the Draft Plant Variety Protection Laws of Nigeria and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with the 1991 Act of UPOV Convention. If adopted and brought in force without changes, both states can deposit their instruments of accession to UPOV 1991.

Nigeria specifically shows potential for horticulture, although a 2015 report commissioned by the Government of the Netherlands lists the lack of infrastructure, irregularities in water supply and ecological challenges among problems hindering the development of horticulture in the country.
